Hawks Extend Streak to Seven Straight, Blank Lincoln in CIAA Northern Division Play

Lindsey Denne tallied 27 assists for the Hawks on Monday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University volleyball team won their seventh consecutive match on Monday evening with a 3-0 win over the visiting Lady Lions of The Lincoln University.  The Hawks improve to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in CIAA play with the victory while the Lady Lions slide to 2-6 on the year and 2-4 against league competition. 

Chowan topped Lincoln 25-15 in the first set, 25-8 in the second and 25-18 in the third set to claim the win.
 
Ashley Tutherow tallied a match-high 11 kills in the contest followed by Michelle Seiler with 10 kills. 

Morgan Spencer and Suraya Chase added nine kills apiece in the victory.  Lindsey Denne dished out 27 assists in the contest while Becca Page added 19 assists.  Cindy Ehrich hauled in 12 digs for the Chowan Blue and White as Brianna Smith followed with 11 digs. 

Mariah Russell tallied a team-high three kills while Sydney Cook collected 17 digs for the Lady Lions.

In the first set, the Hawks and Lady Lions battled to gain solid ground and control of the momentum.  Chowan pulled away at the 11-9 mark using a Lady Lion error and kills by Tutherow and Chase.  From there, it was all about the Hawks as Chowan maintained a lead of four or more points in the remainder of the set before securing the 25-15 win with a kill by Spencer. 

The Hawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second set and never looked back.  Chowan held Lincoln to a mere eight points over the course of set two, taking advantage of Lady Lion errors while using a team total of 13 kills to earn the 25-8 victory. 

The Lady Lions refused to go down without a fight and fought back from an early 14-4 deficit  to shift the momentum in their favor late in the set.  Trailing 21-11, Lincoln battled to score five unanswered points to make the score 22-16.  Tutherow and Smith responded to the challenge with the three necessary kills to secure the 25-18 win. 

The Hawks return to action on September 30th when they travel to the University of Mount Olive.  Match time is slated for 7:00pm.
