FARMVILLE, VA- The Chowan University women's tennis team fell to Longwood University 7-0 on Wednesday evening. The Hawks move to 11-5 on the season while the Lancers advance to 8-10 on the year.
Longwood swept the Hawks in doubles and singles play, snapping a five match win streak for the Chowan Blue and White. The Lancers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the match after sweeping the Hawks in doubles play. Longwood continued the momentum into singles play and defeated Chowan in every position to earn the 7-0 win using the Division I scoring format.
In doubles play,
Natalya Kamenshchikova and
Victoria Smolchenkova fell to Paloma Alatorre and Malin Allqurin 8-4 at the number one position while
Polina Novachuk and
Jessica De Backre dropped an 8-2 decision to Anna Pelak and Nicole Parker in the number two spot. Mason Thomas and Maria Coronel defeated
Natalia Andrade and
Straffai Cleveland 8-1 to give Longwood 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Kamenshchikova dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Allqurin in the number one position while Pelak edged Novachuk in tiebreaker play in the number two position. Smolchenkova also suffered a setback in tiebreaker play in the number three position against Maria Coronel while De Backre dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Alatorre. Andrade fell to Thomas 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth position while Parker topped Cleveland 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth position.
The Hawks return to their home court on Friday when they host Salem College at 2:00pm.
