FRANKLIN, VA- The Chowan University women's tennis team picked up their third consecutive win on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Bowie State University in CIAA play. The Hawks advance to 9-4 overall with the win and post an unblemished 6-0 record in the league after Friday's contest. The Lady Bulldogs slip to 1-3 on the year and 1-3 against CIAA competition with the setback.
Chowan made quick work of Bowie State and swept the Lady Bulldogs in doubles and singles play.
During doubles competition,
Natalya Kamenshchikova and
Victoria Smolchenkova toppled Amber Peters and Dainese Smothers 8-2 in the number one doubles position. Duos
Polina Novachuk and
Jessica De Backre and
Straffai Cleveland and
Natalia Andrade both blanked their opponents 8-0 in the number two and three doubles positions, respectively.
In singles play, Kamenshchikova handled Ambers Peters 8-1 in the number one position while Novachuk blanked Smothers 8-0 in the second position. Smolchenkova dropped Antonique Johnson 8-1 while De Backre handed Channae Manning an 8-0 setback in the fourth spot. Andrade topped Rahwa Hamtemariam 8-1 while Cleveland earned an 8-0 victory in the sixth position.
Chowan returns to action on Saturday when the Hawks host Shaw University as part of the CIAA Round-Up. First serve is slated for 10:00am.
