CU Women's Tennis Battles with Trojans But Fall 5-4

CU's Natayla Kamenshchikova won her 9th #1 seeded singles match against UMO

MURFREESBORO, NC - In a tough fought match the Chowan University women's tennis team fell 5-4 to the University of Mount Olive on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match up. The Hawks fall to 6-4 on the year after Sunday's loss. Chowan picked up singles match wins from their top three seeds but only won one out of three on the doubles side to fall with the eventual score, 5-4.

CU's Natalya Kamenshchikova handed UMO's Francesca Ceppi a three-sets loss. Kamenshchikova won 4-6, 6-4, and 6-4 at the #1 seeded singles match. Polina Novachuk also won in a three set match over UMO's Roxanne Chouinard. She lost the first set 2-6, but bounced back to take the final two sets 6-3 and 6-2 for the win. VIctoria Smolchenkova beat UMO's Alejandra Hernandez in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3.

Kamenshchikova and Smolchenkova paired up to win the #1 seeded doubles match 8-4 over UMO's Ceppi and Chouinard.

Straffai Cleveland lost in a tough battle at the #6 seeded singles match. She lost the first set to UMO's Mariana Gamboa 6-3 but rebounded to take the 6-3 second set win. Gamboa took the third set 6-3 for the win.
