HILTON HEAD, SC - The CU Women's Tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss at the hands of Indiana University-Pennsylvania on Tuesday at the Hilton Head Tennis Challenge. The Hawks fall to 6-3 after the loss. Chowan has one more match remaining in the challenge before returning home to host Mount Olive on Sunday, March 15th.
Natalya Kamenshchikova fell to 8-3 on the year at the #1 singles seed after losing to IUP's Tanya Timko in three sets, 3-6, 6-3 (10-3).
Polina Novachuk (10-3) fell 6-3, 6-1 to Jarka Petercakova at the #2 seeded singles match while teammate
Victoria Smolchenkova dropped the #3 seeded match to IUP's Luise Von Agris 6-1, 6-4.
Jessica De Backre dropped the #4 seeded singles match to IUP's Abby McCormick 6-2, 6-1. CU's
Natalia Andrade dropped her #5 singles match 6-0, 6-0 to IUP's Sophie Butland while teammate
Straffai Cleveland fell in the #6 seeded match to IUP's Rachel Wood 6-1, 6-0.
Timko and Petercakova paired up to beat CU's Kamenshchikova and Smolchenkova 8-4 in the top seeded doubles match. Novachuk and De Backre lost the #2 doubles match 8-5 to IUP's Raquel Gonzalez and McCormick. Andrade and Cleveland dropped the #3 doubles seeded match 8-0.
The Hawks will wrap up at the Hilton Head Tennis Challenge on Friday, March 13th when they take on West Liberty University. The Hawks will return home on Sunday, March 15th to Host the University of Mount Olive at 1:00pm.
