CHARLOTTE, NC- CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTO GALLERY The Chowan University cheerleading team competed in the CIAA McDonald's Super Saturday event on February 28th.  The Sapphires, along with cheerleading squads from all twelve CIAA member institutions, showcased their skills in Time Warner Cable Arena in front of a packed arena.

Seniors Jessica Hubbard and Taylor McElroy were selected to the All-CIAA Cheerleading Team.  Members of the squad must have reached sophomore status, be in good academic standing and serve as an example of sportsmanship, enthusiasm and leadership.  Hubbard is a native of Yuma, Arizona and is a Psychology major.  She is a Leadership Scholar, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and was named Homecoming Queen this past fall.

McElroy hails from Chester, Virginia.  She is a four-year member of the cheerleading team and is a two year runner on the women's cross country team.  McElroy is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and has been named to the Dean's List during her time at Chowan.  She has earned All-CIAA honors for the past two consecutive seasons.

CIAA McDonald's Super Saturday is an annual event featuring performances, giveaways, the crowning of Miss CIAA (LaTarryl Hall, Miss Chowan University) along with the cheerleading exhibition.

The Sapphires cheer at home football and men's and women's basketball games along with select road contests.
