Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University men's soccer team swept William Peace University 5-0 to earn their fifth win of the season on Thursday evening. The Hawks advance to 5-3-2 on the season while the Pacers slip to a 2-11 season record.
Chowan took control early in the first period when
Jason Bradbury scored a goal in the 9
th minute by taking advantage of an assist by
Terell Williamson to zip the ball by the Pacers diving goalkeeper, Tanielu Riley, into the top of the box. In the 22
nd minute of the game,
Jamie McNicholas shot an unassisted goal to make it 2-0. Just moments later, the Hawks took a 3-0 lead when
Barkan Koeprueluegil took an assist from Williamson to shoot a goal into the far post beyond the reach of the Pacers goalkeeper. In the 31
st minute of play, Williamson beat the goalkeeper again to make an open goal off of an assist from
Myles Smith making the score 4-0. Minutes before the end of the first period, Koeprueluegil assisted
Octavio Espino in scoring a goal into the far post. Chowan ended the first period with 17 shots while Peace had one shot.
The second half was scoreless for both teams thereby giving Chowan the 5-0 win. Over the course of the game Chowan was able to outshoot William Peace 28-3.
Marco Lujan made one save in goal. For the Pacers, Riley faced 12 shots on goal during the game and made seven saves. Chowan's Williamson and Koeprueluegil each had three shots on goal during the game, while Bradbury accounted for two shots on goal. Espino, McNicholas,
Tre Bonaparte and
Christian Funes each had one shot on goal for the Hawks. Matt Comienski accounted for the one shot on goal for the Pacers.
Chowan returns to action on October 10th when the Hawks travel to Elkins, WV to play Davis & Elkins College. Match time is slated for 2:30pm.
