Box Score LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 CIAA Northern Division victory over The Lincoln University on Monday evening. The win was the Hawks' 12
th consecutive victory. Chowan advances to 13-3 overall and 10-0 in CIAA play after Monday's contest. The Lady Lions slide to 5-8 overall and 4-6 in the league with the setback.
Chowan opened the contest with a 25-12 win in the first set and grabbed a 25-23 win in set two before closing out the third set with a 25-21 victory.
Ashley Tutherow led all players in the contest with 11 kills for the Chowan Blue and White.
Cindy Ehrich hauled in 20 digs while
Suraya Chase grabbed 14 digs to aid the effort.
Becca Page tallied 23 assists on the evening.
Jillian Lee led The Lincoln University with seven kills while Soyini Huggett, Keldesha Spencer and Mariah Russell each notched five kills in the setback. Syndey Cook grabbed a match-high 29 digs for the Lady Lions while Shanna King handed out 22 assists.
After trailing 2-1 early in set one, the Hawks recovered to grab four straight points using kills by Tutherow and
Brittany Tschida along with a Lady Lion miscue to pull away 5-2. Chowan maintained a lead of three or more points for the remainder of the set and easily secured a 25-12 set one win after an attack error by The Lincoln University.
The second set featured a fierce battle for momentum. The Hawks trailed 15-10 midway through set two before digging deep to string together a 6-0 run, resulting in a narrow 16-15 advantage. The Lady Lions fought back with a vengeance and tied the contest 23-23 using a kill by Lee. A kill by Tutherow followed by a Lady Lion attack error handed the Lady Lions a 25-23 setback in the second set.
The Lincoln University jumped ahead in the third set as well and maintained a 20-15 lead heading into the final stretch. Down but not out, Chowan regrouped to score nine unanswered points to pull away 24-20. A Hawk attack error gave the Lady Lions an additional point, but the Hawks snuck away with the win using a kill by Chase.
Chowan travels to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday to take on Kutztown University and Shippensburg University in nonconference action at 3:30pm and 5:30pm, respectively. The Hawks return to the Helms Center on Sunday to battle Virginia Union University. Match time is slated for 6:00pm.
