Box Score CHARLOTTE, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team earned two victories at the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday evening. The Hawks topped Livingstone 3-1 in their first match of the day, and defeated Johnson C. Smith University 3-1 on Saturday evening. With the victories, Chowan improves to 12-3 on the year and remains undefeated in CIAA play with an 8-0 mark. The Hawks have won their last ten straight matches.
The Lady Blue Bears clipped the Hawks 25-23 in the first set of the day, but the Hawk recovered to win three straight sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-18) to secure the 3-1 match victory.
Melanie Chaussee tallied 17 kills followed by Nikiray Fults with 11 kills.
Suraya Chase chipped in 10 kills for the Blue and White while
Allison Smith tallied 45 assists.
Brittany Tschida notched three service aces in the win.
In the second match of the day, the Golden Bulls snagged the first set 25-18. Again, Chowan answered with three straight wins to clinch the 3-1 CIAA crossover win against Johnson C. Smith. The picked up a 25-21 win in set two, overcame a seven point deficit to clinch the third set 27-25, and secured the victory win a 25-17 win in the fourth set. Fults tallied a team-high 14 kills, while
Jordan Miller and Chaussee collected 10 kills apiece. Smith totaled 40 assists while Chase had four service aces for the Blue and White.
The Hawks take on Winston-Salem State University on Sunday at 11:00am on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
