Hawks Roll Past Bowie State, Top Lady Bulldogs in Straight Sets

Box Score BOWIE, MD- The Chowan University volleyball team defeated Bowie State University in straight sets on Sunday afternoon in CIAA Northern Division play.  The Hawks improve to 8-3 overall and remain perfect in CIAA play with a 4-0 mark.  The Lady Bulldogs drop to 1-11 on the year and 1-4 in league play. 

Melanie Chaussee and Jordan Miller led all players in the contest with 10 kills in the win.  Allison Smith tallied 28 assists while Cindy Ehrich hauled in eight digs for the Blue and White.   India Mason paced the Lady Bulldogs with six kills as Brook Archer Simpson totaled 13 assists. 

Bowie State made 21 errors over the course of the match and ended the contest with a negative hitting percentage on the afternoon (-.01). 

The Hawks won the first two sets by identical 25-15 scores, and secured the victory with a 25-17 win in the third set. 

With the score tied 8-8 in set one, back-to-back errors by the Lady Bulldogs returned the lead and the momentum to the Hawks.  Chowan maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, and clinched the 25-15 win with a block by Brittany Tschida.  The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set off of Allison Smith's serves, and never trailed en-route to the 25-15 set two victory.  The third set was more closely contested.  With Chowan trailing 13-12, a kill by Chaussee sparked an 8-0 run for the Hawks, leading to the 25-17 victory. 

Chowan returns to action on September 22nd when they travel to The Lincoln University.  The CIAA Northern Division match-up is slated to begin at 6:00pm.
