Aggies Power Past Hawks

Box Score GREENSBORO, NC- The Chowan University football team suffered a 59-0 loss to North Carolina A & T State University on Saturday evening.  The Hawks slip to 1-2 with the loss while the Aggies improve to 3-1 after the victory.  Saturday's match-up marked the first CIAA opponent for the Aggies in six years. 

Chowan collected 218 offensive yards in the loss.  Dain McFarland completed 16-28 pass attempts for 127 yards while Anthony Clanton had nine carries for 67 yards.  Ryan Nolan led all receivers in the contest with seven receptions totaling 65 yards.  JR Williams returned four kick-offs for 103 yards, including a 51-yard run. 

The Aggies amassed 407 yards of offense in the victory.  Quarterback Kwashaun Quick completed 15-21 passes for 215 yards and threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers.  He also ran for 82 yards and one touchdown.  Desmond Lawrence had five receptions for 38 yards.  Marquell Cartwright totaled 14 carries for 87 yards while Tarik Cohen had seven carries and three touchdowns for North Carolina A&T. 

Defensively, Jeremy Fletcher led all players in the game with 10 tackles (five solo, five assisted).  Wesley Bray collected seven tackles (five solo, two assisted) and a sack for the Blue and White.  Tony McRae, Dorian Belcher, and Joshua Patrick tallied six tackles apiece in the win.  The Aggie defense forced five interceptions and four sacks over the course of the evening. 

The Aggies used a field goal, touchdown by Cohen, and point after attempt to pull away 10-0 in the first quarter.  North Carolina A & T put up 42 points in the second quarter, putting the game out of reach with a 52-0 lead heading into halftime. 

Chowan held the Aggies to a touchdown and point after in the second half, but the damage was done, and the Hawks suffered the 59-0 loss. 

The Hawks look to recover on September 27th when they take on Saint Augustine's University in CIAA crossover play.  Kick-off is slated for 1:30pm.
