CALGARY, AB- Chowan University's
Robert Holland continues to make his mark in the athletic arena. The Newport News, VA native will continue his football career and will play professionally with the Calgary Stampeders as part of the Canadian Football League, as announced on Tuesday evening.
Holland noted, "I want to start off by thanking Chowan University for letting me serve as a representation of them on and off the field. All of the support I've received over the years is deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten. I will do my best to continue to try to make Chowan proud. I'm going to try to make sure they know about Chowan out in Canada!"
The Stampeders begin play on Saturday, June 14
th when they host Winnipeg to kick-off their season, which extends all the way through November 7
th. Last season, Calgary posted a 14-4 record and finished 7-3 in the West Division, earning the Division Championship.
The CFL features the highest level of competition in Canadian football and has nine teams.
Holland was a four year starter of the Chowan University football team. He earned All-CIAA honors all four years of his career and was named the CIAA Offensive Player of the Year and Chowan University Male Student-Athlete of the Year as a senior. Additionally, he holds all nine receiving records at Chowan and set the CIAA and NCAA DII career reception record with 325 over the course of his career.
Holland earned BOXTOROW Honorable Mention All-American honors, NCAA Division II Third Team Offensive All-Super Region One and D2Football.com Honorable Mention All-American recognition at the conclusion of his career.
He will report to preseason camp on May 28
th to embark on his career with the Calagary Stampeders. Click
