Hawks Upend Lady Trojans

PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University women's tennis team earned a critical 8-1 win over Virginia State University on Thursday afternoon in CIAA Northern Division action.  The Hawks move to 19-7 on the season and remain undefeated with a 12-0 record in the league after the win.  The Lady Trojans move to 12-3 overall and 10-3 against CIAA completion. 
 
The Hawks swept Virginia State in doubles play and suffered just one setback in singles competition.
 
Natalya Kamenshchikova/Holly Stambaugh topped their opponent 8-4 in doubles play while Breanne Johnson/Natalia Andrade and Jessica De Backre/Jennifer Humphrey earned 8-3 and 8-2 victories respectively. 
 
In singles competition, Natalya Kamenshchikova edged Zaire Simmons in the number one position.  Breanne Johnson fell in a close tiebreaker against Brittany Uzzell.  Steambaugh, De Backre, Andrade and Cleveland all earned victories against their opponents to secure the 8-1 win for the Hawks. 
 
Chowan returns to action on Saturday when they host Virginia Union.  The CIAA Northern Division match-up is slated for 1:00pm.
