ROCKY MOUNT, NC- The Chowan University women's tennis team came up short in a 5-3 match against Barton College.  The Hawks and Bulldogs battled in a marathon match beginning at 3:00pm that lasted well into late Monday night.  Results from the match were not available until Tuesday morning.
 
Chowan took two out of three against Barton in doubles competition with Natalya Kamenshchikova/Holly Stambaugh topping Smiljana Kljajic and Alicia Lasry 8-5 and Breanne Johnson and Natalia Andrade teaming up for an 8-6 win over Ananya Sarkar and Meredith Pruden.  Straffai Cleveland and Jennifer Humphry fell to Randi Price and Dana Kelly 8-1. 
 
In singles play, Kamenshchikova was the lone Hawk to earn a victory after defeating Kljajic 6-4, 3-6 and 10-8.  Sarkar topped Johnson 4-6, 6-3, and 10-4 in a hard fought match before Stambaugh, Jessica De Backre and Andrade came up short against their opponents.  Jennifer Humphrey's match against Caroline Fischer was unfinished since the teams used the first-to-five scoring format. 
 
The Hawks move to 3-2 after the loss while the Bulldogs improve to 3-1.
