Hawks Fall Short against North Georgia

Hank Edmonds scored 16 points for Chowan on Friday.
Box Score PENSACOLA, FL- The Chowan University men's basketball team dropped a 67-60 decision to the University of North Georgia on Friday evening.  The Hawks move to 3-1 on the season with the loss while the Nighthawks improve to 4-1 with the win.

Hank Edmonds led the effort for the Hawks with 16 points in the setback.  Kyree Bethel and Warren Powers chipped in 13 and 10 points respectively.  Josh Mellette hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds (four offensive, eight defensive). 

Corey Green led the Nighthawks with 20 points in the victory and a team-high 10 rebounds (three offensive, seven defensive). Shaquan Cantrell added 16 points in the win for North Georiga. 

North Georgia opened up the first half with a three-pointer by Green. The Nighthawks held on to the advantage for the majority of the first half.  A layup by T.J. Williams at the 6:44 mark gave the Nighthawks an eight point lead (20-12), their largest of the half. 

A layup by Powers followed by three-pointers by Bethel and Edmonds knotted the score 22-22 with 3:33 left before halftime.  Chowan closed out the half with a 10-3 run to hold a 32-25 edge heading into halftime.

Both teams came out strong in the second half, as the score was tied twice and the lead changed five times before the conclusion of the contest.  With the Hawks trailing 41-40, a layup by Dauson Womack handed Chowan the advantage but Andrew Lawrence's basket returned the lead (43-42) to North Georgia at the 13:14 mark. 

The Nighthawks led by as many as ten points (56-46) as late as the 5:43 mark before closing out the contest with the 67-60 victory. 

Chowan returns to action on Saturday when they take on the University of West Florida.  Tip-off is slated for 6:00pm.
