Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team bounced back from a two-match losing streak on Thursday evening with a 3-0 victory over Elizabeth City State University. The Hawks improve to 13-5 overall, 9-2 in CIAA play, and 4-1 in Northern Division play with the win. The Lady Vikings slip to 5-13 overall and 5-6 in the league after the loss.
Melanie Chaussee paced the Hawks with 11 kills in the victory, followed by
Jordan Miller who notched 10 kills.
Allison Smith totaled 29 assists while
Cindy Ehrich hauled in 14 digs for the Blue and White. Rosetta Becerra led the effort for the Lady Vikings with 10 kills while Kelsey Smith chipped in seven kills. Krystal Sawyer collected 18 assists and 11 digs for Elizabeth City State.
After trailing 4-1 early in set one, a kill by Chase sparked a 12-0 run for the Hawks and a 13-4 advantage for Chowan. The Hawks held Elizabeth City State to just three more points in the set before clinching the 25-7 victory with a kill by Chaussee.
The second and third sets were more closely contested, but the Hawks continued to build on the momentum from early in the match. With the score knotted 20-20 in set two, a kill by
Allison Smith and Lady Viking attack error handed the Hawks the edge they needed to close out the set with a 25-22 victory.
In the third set, Chowan trailed 16-14 before a kill by Chaussee led to a 4-0 run and 18-16 advantage. A kill by Miller secured the 25-21 third set victory for the Hawks.
Chowan returns to action on October 11
th when they take on Claflin University. Match time is slated for 6:00pm in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
