Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University volleyball team earned a 3-0 CIAA Northern Division win on Monday evening against The Lincoln University. The Hawks improve to 16-5 overall and 11-2 in the league after earning their second win in as many days. The Lady Lions slip to 2-14 on the season with the setback and slide to 1-12 against CIAA competition.
Melanie Chaussee led all players in the contest with 16 kills in the win for the Hawks.
Suraya Chase followed with 13 kills while
Allison Smith totaled 43 assists. Cindry Ehrich hauled in a match-high 19 digs while
Jordan Miller collected 11 digs.
Ashanti Price paced the Lady Lions with 13 kills and 16 digs. Kyra Orton notched 18 digs in the loss.
Chowan quietly built a commanding lead in the first set, highlighted by an 8-0 run behind
Jordan Miller's serving game. After clinching the first set 25-13, the Hawks went to work in set two to grab a 25-12 victory behind 15 team kills to earn the victory.
The third set forced the Hawks to dig deep. Trailing 5-4, the Lady Lions orchestrated a 6-0 run leaving Chowan with a 10-4 deficit. Although the Hawks remained within striking distance, Lincoln maintained the advantage through the midway point of the set.
With the Lady Lions leading 22-18, a kill by Fults, two Lincoln errors and
Jordan Miller's service ace iced the contest 22-22. The score was tied once more 25-25 before two kills by Chaussee secured the 27-25 win.
The Hawks hit the road on October 18
th to compete against West Virginia Tech and St. Andrew's University. Chowan continues their road trip with an October 19
th contest against Virginia Union University.
