Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University volleyball team rolled past the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University on Sunday afternoon in CIAA Northern Division play. The Hawks improve to 15-5 overall and 10-2 in CIAA play with the 3-0 victory while the Lady Bulldogs slip to 5-18 on the year and 3-10 in the league with the loss.
Melanie Chaussee and
Jordan Miller each tallied nine kills for the Blue and White while
Allison Smith notched 33 assists.
Cindy Ehrich hauled in a team-high six digs.
Brittany Tschida notched seven kills and three blocks (one solo, two assisted) to aid the effort.
Alexis Fisher had five kills for Bowie State while Marissa Martinez led all players in the contest with 14 digs.
With a narrow 5-4 lead in the first set, a kill by Chaussee sparked a 10-2 run resulting in a 15-6 lead for the Hawks. Chowan remained in control for the remainder of the set and earned a 25-13 victory using a kill by
Nikira Fults.
The Hawks continued the momentum into the second set.
Allison Smith's service ace at the start of the set led to a 7-0 run behind her serves and left Bowie State trailing 7-0. With a 10-2 lead, a kill by Chaussee contributed to an 8-0 run for Chowan midway through set two. The Hawks secured the 25-6 win with a block by Tschida and
Suraya Chase.
Chowan powered through set three behind 13 kills and took advantage of four Lady Bulldog errors to earn a 25-15 victory.
The Hawks return to the Helms Center on October 13
th when they host The Lincoln University. First serve for the CIAA Northern Division match-up is slated for 6:00pm.
