Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC- The Chowan University volleyball team earned their second win in as many days on Friday evening with a 3-1 victory over Claflin University.  The Hawks improve to 14-5 with the win while the Lady Panthers slip to 11-9 on the season with the loss. 

Jordan Miller led all players in the contest with 13 kills for the Blue and White.  Nikira Fults followed with nine kills while Allison Smith tallied 33 assists.  Cindy Ehrich led the back row with 21 digs as Suraya Chase and Allison Smith totaled 13 and 11 digs, respectively. 

Kiara Johnson led the effort for Claflin with a match-high 11 kills.  Caleen Hawkins notched 36 assists and 10 digs.
With the score tied 5-5 in the first set, a block by Chase and Brittany Tschida led to a 5-0 run for the Hawks.  Chowan held on to the momentum from that point forward and closed out the set with a 25-15 victory. 

The Hawks and Lady Panthers matched each other nearly point for point in the second set.  A kill by Miller late in the set knotted the score 22-22.  Three attack errors by Claflin allowed Chowan to grab the narrow 25-22 win, resulting in a 2-0 lead in the match. 

The Lady Panthers fought back in the third set.  With the score tied 8-8, a kill by Brianna Garvin handed Claflin a 9-8 advantage.  The Hawks were unable to respond and surrendered a 5-0 run late in the set which led to a 25-17 setback. 

In the fourth set, with the score tied 2-2, Chowan used a 13-0 run off of Lauren East's serves to take a commanding 15-2 lead.  The Lady Panthers scored just six points in the remainder of the set as Chowan used a 7-0 run to close out the contest with a 25-8 victory. 

The Hawks return to Murfreesboro on Sunday when they host Bowie State University in a CIAA Northern Division match-up.  First serve is slated for 1:00pm in the Helms Center.
