Hawks Extend Win Streak to Six, Top Lincoln (PA)

Box Score  MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team extended their win streak to six on Monday afternoon in a 3-0 victory over Lincoln (PA).  The Hawks earned their second CIAA Northern Division win in as many days and remain at the top of league standings with a 6-0 overall record and unblemished record in league and divisional play. 
 
Nikira Fults and Jordan Miller each tallied nine kills in the victory.  Kelsey Schlake and Allison Smith collected 13 and 11 assists respectively.  Cindy Ehrich and Schlake tallied eight digs apiece in the win.  For Lincoln (PA), Cynthia Johnson led the effort with five kills in the loss. 
 
A kill by Brianna Smith tied the match 5-5 early in set one.  Behind Suraya Chase's serves and a kill from Allison Smith, the Hawks rallied to score five consecutive points to make the score 10-5.  Chowan scored six straight points midway through the set off Lady Lion errors and kills to extend their lead to 16-8.  The Hawks remained in control for the rest of the set and closed out the 25-15 win. 
 
The Hawks quickly pulled away in set two and jumped to an 11-4 lead thanks to Lady Lion erros and kills by various members of the Chowan squad.  Kills from Jordan Miller, Brianna Smith, and Fults capped by an attack Lincoln (PA) error allowed the Hawks to pull away 15-6.  The Lady Lions fought back but managed to score just five more points in the set, allowing Chowan to take set two 25-11. 
 
The third set was much like the second as the Hawks continued to dominate the pace and the score.  A service error and six straight points off Jasmine Chapman's serves confirmed the 25-10 set win for the Hawks and 3-0 victory. 
 
Chowan will take the court in the Helms Center again on Wednesday as they host their first non-conference opponent, Mount Olive College.  Match time is slated to begin at 6:00pm.
