Featured Hawks: Reed Low

Every Monday through Thursday for the month of July, Chowan Athletics will spotlight select student-athletes and coaches in a series called Featured Hawks. This series highlights Hawks who exemplify excellence in the classroom, in competition, and within the Chowan community. Student-athletes were selected based on their academic achievement, athletic performance, leadership, character, and overall standing with the university. Coaches have the opportunity to share their coaching journey, discuss their programs, and provide insight about their vision for the future.

Fans will learn more about the individual experiences and stories of our student-athletes and coaches at Chowan. Beginning in August, Fridays will transition to Feature Fridays, continuing the spotlight series by highlighting one individual throughout the school year each week.

July 27th, 2026

Reed Low is a senior Business Administration major with a concentration in Management from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, and a standout member of the Chowan men's lacrosse team. During the 2026 season, Low established himself as one of the top offensive players in Conference Carolinas, leading the league in goals per game while finishing the season with 52 goals and 69 points. He earned Second Team All-Conference Carolinas honors and multiple Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week honors. Low also etched his name into the Chowan record book by setting the single-game points and assists records with nine assists and 16 total points in a conference victory over Shorter. His outstanding season also earned him national recognition as a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Team of the Week selection, while he was named Chowan's Impact Player of the Year and recognized as an Ace Hardware Student-Athlete of the Week for his contributions on the field.

Low has been just as successful in the classroom as he has on the field. He earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, recognizing his excellence as both a student and student-athlete while maintaining above a 3.50 cumulative GPA. He was also inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, an honor reserved for student-athletes who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher while competing at the varsity level. Throughout his time at Chowan, Low has consistently been recognized for his academic success by earning a place on the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll. His dedication to academics, leadership, and athletic excellence exemplifies what it means to be a Hawk.

Why did I choose Chowan Universtiy?

I've played lacrosse for upwards of 15 years of my life. It's been a huge part of who I am, so I wanted to take it to the post-secondary level. Chowan was one of the universities that was interested in me, so when I took a visit down there and met with Coach Seese at the time and Coach P.R., I felt very comfortable right when I stepped on campus. Touring the entirety of the campus and kind of getting to know the team, it felt like a fit for me. So, it's part of the reason why I chose to attend Chowan. It just felt so comfortable when I was on my visit, and the people there are fantastic.

What has your experience as a Chowan student-athlete meant to you?

My experience as a student-athlete has meant the world to me. I feel like I've grown a lot, even outside of the sport of lacrosse, and just in who I am as a person. The relationships that I've made with my teammates, coaching staff, and even the people we've met on other teams are going to last a lifetime. It's meant a lot to me, and it's something that I don't take for granted because I'm going to have these relationships well beyond my four years at Chowan. Being a student-athlete has changed who I am, not only on the field but off the field.

What have you learned during your time at Chowan that you will carry with you after graduation?

What I've learned during my time as a student-athlete is how to balance everything. You're busy with your sport, you're busy with your academics, and many of us have work-study jobs, too. Balancing all three isn't easy, but one thing I've learned is how to manage stress, manage my time, and develop those key life skills. That's something I'm definitely going to carry with me moving forward—how to balance my time, balance my schedule, work hard, and not stay stressed because everyone's going through it for the first time. You have a lot of great resources around you, especially at Chowan. Balancing the student-athlete dynamic is something I've learned a lot from, and it's helped me develop important skills throughout my three years here.
