Saints Cruise Past Hawks

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University dropped a 6-0 decision to the visiting Saints of Limestone College on Thursday afternoon.  The Hawks fall to 0-5 on the season after the loss. 
 
Helen Winterburn  gave the Saints an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play.  Ciera Wall's assist allowed Winterburn to net a goal into the near post from the far corner of the box.  Four minutes later, Wall scored an unassisted goal into the far post past a diving Monica Hayward.
 
Trailing 2-0, the Hawks battled to come back but were unable to muster a shot in the half.  Limestone pulled ahead 3-0 in the 34th minute of play when Gabriella Reid drove the ball into the far post from the top of box off an assist from Tori Waddell. 
 
The Saints struck again early in the second half.  Katie Belser took advantage of a deflection off the keeper from Lauren Lanham to move Limestone ahead 4-0.  The Hawks hung with the Saints until the 68th minute of the contest when Reid scored into the far post off a breakaway. Nine minutes later, the Saints put the game out of reach when Wadell scored into an open net off a cross from Wall for a 6-0 lead. 
 
Limestone improves to 2-2-1 on the young season after the victory.  The Saints travel to Spartanburg, SC on Saturday to take on Converse in their first Conference Carolina's match-up.    
 
The Hawks move to 0-5 on the year after Thursday's loss.  They return to the pitch on Saturday September 21st to host Lincoln University (PA).  The contest is slated to begin at 3:30pm.
