Chowan Ousted from NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament

Lacey Wildeboer had two hits and two RBI in Saturday's loss.
CALIFORNIA, PA- The Chowan University softball team's season came to an end on Saturday afternoon after a 10-2 loss in the elimination game of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Softball Tournament against Lock Haven University.

The Hawks split with the Eagles earlier this season, but it was Lock Haven that came out on top on Saturday to stay alive in the NCAA Regional Tournament.  The Eagles advance to take on California University of Pennsylvania in hopes of advancing to Sunday's championship game.

Chowan combined for five hits in the afternoon, with senior Lacey Wildeboer earning two hits in her final game with the Hawks.  Liz Hipple, Amber Matthews, and Hannah Joyce each notched a base hit knock in the loss.

The Hawks scored first in the contest, using their first at bat to plate two runs.  Wildeboer laced a two run single through the right side to score Matthews and Hipple, giving Chowan a 2-0 advantage.  Lock Haven responded in the home half of the second by scoring four runs off five hits to take a 4-2 lead.

Both teams' bats were silent until the Eagles struck again in the bottom of the fourth frame after scoring one run off a Hawk error, and Alicia Cacciotti's two run homerun to centerfield put Lock Haven up 7-2.    The Hawks were unable to respond in their next at-bat, allowing the Eagles to secure the win in the home half of the fifth, scoring three runs off of five hits.

Alora Lincoln took the loss on the mound, throwing 3.2 innings in the contest and surrendering seven earned runs.  Courtney Groce came in to relive Lincoln, and gave up three earned runs in the loss.

Brianna Jennings earned her 21st win of the season after entering the game in-relief of Nicole Smith.  Jennings held the Hawks to three hits, and gave up zero runs.  The Eagles continue their season with a 29-15 record, while Chowan ends the year at 26-23 overall.
