Hawks Suffer 3-0 Setback against Shippensburg

Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, PA- The Chowan University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Shippensburg Raiders on Tuesday evening.  The contest ended a three-match road stint for the Hawks and moves them to 12-4 overall on the season.  The Raiders improve to 14-6 on the year after Tuesday's victory. 
 
Suraya Chase notched a team-high seven kills in the loss.  Kelsey Schlake tallied 11 assists while Cindy Ehrich led the Hawks with 11 digs.  For the Raiders, Jill Edwards led all players in the contest with 12 kills while Maura Nolan accounted for 18 assists in the win. 
 
The Hawks hung with the Raiders early in the first set until a kill from Edwards sparked a 6-0 run, giving Shippensburg a 19-9 lead.  The Raiders pulled away with the 25-13 victory using kills from Nolan, Gabbie Holt and Faith Athey to close out the first set. 
 
Shippensburg continued to hang on to the momentum in the second set.  With the Hawks trailing 9-5, a 7-0 run for the Raiders capped by a Hawk attack error resulted in Shippensburg maintaining a commanding 16-5 advantage.  A 6-0 run by the Raiders but Chowan at a 22-6 deficit before taking the eventual 25-11 loss in the second set.
 
Shippensburg jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the third set.  The Hawks pulled within six points of the Raiders but were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 25-12 in the second set. 
 
Chowan looks to recover this weekend as they travel to Raleigh, NC to take on Barton College and St. Augustine's University on October 18th.  Match times are slated for 3:30pm and 5:30pm respectively.
