Hawks Power By Trojans to Open Day Two at JC Invite

Megan Sawyer tallied 10 kills in win over MOC
Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University Hawks used 45 team kills and 13 service aces to power by Mount Olive College to open day two play at the Janet Collins Invitational this morning. Senior Tori Lewis paced Chowan with 12 kills while Megan Sawyer came in with 10 kills. Chowan won in four sets, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, and 25-17. The Hawks are set to play Concord University (1-1) in the next match at 1:00pm.

Chowan jumped out early on the Trojans with a 25-14 first set win. Karina Monroe helped to set the pace for the set after getting the first three points of the set with two kills and a solo block. The two teams battled in the second set but Mount Olive came away with the 25-23 edge to knot the match at 1-1. The Hawks used Lewis' and Sawyer's kills to help propel them to the third and fourth set wins and the ultimate match win.

Callie Armistead set up 29 assists and had three aces in the win. Tara Thomalla had 13 digs and Monroe ended the match with six blocks.

Chowan (1-1) will face off against Concord University at 1:00pm to end the tournament.
