Box Score 2 HAMPTON, VA - The Chowan University volleyball team improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the CIAA after picking up two wins at the 2011 CIAA Volleyball Round Up. Chowan opened play with a four set win over Winston-Salem State and a straight sets win over Shaw, both cross divisional rivals. The Hawks will play two matches on Saturday and two on Sunday to finish up the round up. The Hawks are two-time CIAA defending champions.
Chowan jumped out to a two set lead (25-22, 25-14) over WSSU before they bounced back with a 25-19 win over the Hawks. The Hawks didn't let it get them down for long as they rolled to a 25-12 win to take the match. Two Hawks finished with double digit kills in
Tori Lewis and
Karina Monroe. Lewis ended the match with 15 kills and teammate Monroe came in with 11 kills.
Callie Armistead set up 33 assists and
Tara Thomalla had 14 digs in the match. Monroe also had four blocks in the win.
The Hawks took Shaw down in straight sets with final set scores of 25-7, 25-7, and 25-8. No stats were available at the time of this release.
Chowan will play Fayetteville State University and Johnson C. Smith University in second day play. Match times are 1:00pm and 3:00pm. All matches are being played at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia.
