Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PEMBROKE, NC – The Chowan University baseball team fell to 30-18 on the season following a pair of non-conference losses to UNC Pembroke on Tuesday.  The Braves (36-10) escaped with a narrow 2-1 victory in the opener, and took the nightcap 11-1.

In game one, John DesChamps (5-5) pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs while striking out two batters, but it was not enough as the Hawks offense could only manage one run.  The Braves got on the board in the home half of the third inning off two RBI singles.

Chowan responded in the top of the fourth win one run to cut the lead in half to 2-1.  Justin Bagbey walked to lead off the inning and later scored.  He finished the game going 1-2 at the plate.  The Hawks managed just one hit throughout the final three innings, however, and could not mount the comeback victory.

Colby Wiggins had a team-high two hits, while Adam Capps and William Ward each recorded a hit for Chowan.

A huge fifth inning, combined with another stellar pitching performance, led UNC Pembroke to an 11-1 win in game two.  The Braves scored two runs in the first inning to open up a 2-0 lead.  Chowan scored their lone run in the top of the third inning when Justin Bagbey drove in Brandon Mack with a double down the left field line.

The Braves recorded six hits, including a two-run home run, in the fifth inning to break open an 11-1 advantage which would remain for the rest of the contest.

Ryan Bradshaw (3-4) suffered the loss for Chowan.  He pitched 4.2 innings, striking out one and allowing four earned runs.  John Morris tossed 1.1 innings of no-hit relief.  Justin Bagbey went 2-3 at the dish with one RBI.  Brandon Mack recorded one hit and scored a run.

Chowan will close their 2011 campaign tomorrow, April 28th, when they travel to Mount Olive College (35-6) for a non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 4:00pm.
