Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC – The Chowan University Volleyball team capped a perfect regular season in CIAA play with a 3-0 sweep of Elizabeth City State University on Friday. The Hawks finish 16-0 in the CIAA, and move to 23-6 overall. The Lady Vikings, who finish in second place in the CIAA North, finish with a 12-4 CIAA record, and 16-11 overall record.
Chowan won by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 28-26.
Chowan never trailed in the first game, and led 14-4 at one point, cruising to the nine point victory.
Game two was much different. The Hawks found themselves down 21-16 late in the game, but then scored the final nine points to come away with the win. Six of the nine points came by way of Lady Viking attack errors, while the other three were
Karina Monroe kills. Monroe led the Hawks with 12 kills, and hit .242 on the evening.
The final game was close throughout. After Chowan brought the score to 5-3, only once did either team lead by more than two points (Chowan led 20-17).
Callie Armistead closed out the game with a service ace, her only one of the match.
Tori Lewis recorded 11 kills and a team-high 23 digs. Armistead had 30 assists to add to her career-record total.
Chowan held Elizabeth City State to just a .083 hitting percentage, as the Lady Vikings committed 22 errors. Chowan also recorded seven blocks, to ECSU's three.
Chowan will be the #1 seed out of the North Division when the CIAA Tournament begins next Friday, November 4
th. All games will be played at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA.
