Brandon Chambers scored his second goal of the season, but Southern Virginia University came away with a 3-1 victory over the Hawks on Saturday. Chowan moves to 1-11 on the season, while SVU improves to 8-5-2.
Both defenses were strong throughout the game, as the teams combined for just 11 shots on goal. Kyle Tyree found the back of the net in the 16
th minute to give SVU a 1-0 lead. That was the only scoring of the first half of play.
The Knights opened the second period strong, scoring in the 46
th minute to go up 2-0. They would score again in the 61
st minute, but Chambers punched in a goal off a rebounded shot to bring the Hawks back within two.
Despite out-shooting SVU in the second period 8-4, Chowan could not put any more goals on the board. Chambers has a team-high three shots, while
Ethan Phelps made three saves.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, October 18
th when they host Mount Olive College at 4:00pm.
