Box Score ETTRICK, VA – The Chowan University volleyball team went back to their winning ways after dismantling Virginia State University on Tuesday, 25-21, 25-15, 25-11.
Tori Lewis recorded 11 kills and
Callie Armistead led the Hawks with 32 assists. Chowan moves to 19-4 overall, and 12-0 in CIAA play, and have won 14 of their last 15 matches.
The Hawks and Lady Trojans played a tight opening game. Neither team led by more than four points until a pair of VSU attack errors put Chowan up 18-14.
Nikira Fults crushed one of her eight kills on the final point of the game to give the Hawks a 25-21 win.
Chowan only continued to improve from there. After another competitive start to open game two, the Hawks scored eight straight points to take a commanding 20-12 lead.
Monica Ruffin nailed two service aces, while
Karina Monroe had two kills during the run. Monroe finished the evening with eight kills and hit .333.
A pair of Virginia State errors closed the set and gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Trojans committed 15 attack errors throughout the match.
The third and final game was all Chowan. The Hawks jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead, thanks in part to three kills by Lewis. Chowan did not slow down from that point on, and cruised to a 25-11 win.
Ruffin led the Hawks with 12 digs, while
Tara Thomalla added 10. Chowan will travel to Lincoln University on Friday, October 14
th to take on the Lady Lions at 6:00pm.
