Bulldogs Blow by Hawks

Chowan Falls 56-14 to The Citadel

Box Score CHARLESTON, SC - The Chowan University football team remains winless on the season after losing 56-14 to The Citadel this afternoon. The Hawks put up 311 yards of offense behind the arm of rookie quarterback Cameron Stover who passed for 245 in his first collegiate start. The Ctiadel combined for 374 yards of offense with 243 yards coming on the ground. This was the season opener for the Bulldogs who will travel to play Arizona next weekend. The Hawks will take off this week and then return to the gridiron with a trip to Winston-Salem State University on September 18th. 

After trailing 7-0 heading in to the second quarter of play, the Hawks gave up 42 second quarter points to get down 49-0 at the half. Chowan finally got on the board with two third quarter scores. Elliot Smalls rushed in from 21 yards out to open the the third quarter with a score. Joey Gargiulo made good on the point after attempt. Cameron Stover connected with Michael Satterwhite for a 17 yard score later in the quarter. Gargiulo connected on point after attempt but the damage from the second quarter was too much for Chowan to overcome. 

Smalls ran for 83 yards on 18 carries while also catching three passes for 33 yards. Stover connected on 16 of 24 passes for 245 yards and one touchdown. He also threw four interceptions in the game. Eddie Coard caught five passes for 97 yards while Robert Holland hauled in three passes for 62 yards. Satterwhite caught three balls from Stover for 34 yards and a score. 

Defensively, Jason Ampy had a team-high seven tackles while Leon Eason , Brad Cash , and Marc McCadden each had six tackles in the loss. 

The Citadel (1-0) will travel to play Arizona next week while Chowan (0-2) rests up on an open week. They will return to the field on September 18th with a roadtrip to Winston-Salem State University.
