Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Chowan University's volleyball team ran their CIAA record to a perfect 6-0 after picking up two wins in first day play at the CIAA Round Up in Fayetteville today. Chowan battled back from a 2-0 set deficit to beat Saint Augustine's College 3-2 in their first match of the day and then cruised to a straight sets victory over Livingstone in their afternoon match. The Hawks have one match remaining in the Round Up as they prepare to play Winston-Salem State University tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm. Winston-Salem also went 2-0 in play today at the Round Up.
Chowan dropped the first of five sets to Saint Augustine's 25-23, 26-24 but bounced back to win the last three sets 25-17, 25-20, and 15-8.
Karina Monroe had a match-high 18 kills along with five blocks while
Victoria Lewis had 15 kills and four service aces.
Callie Armistead picked up 30 assists and
Antoinette McCollough had nine kills and one block in the five-set thriller.
Chowan beat Livingstone with scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-13 in their afternoon match. Monroe collected 10 kills and McCollough came in behind her with seven. Lewis had nine service aces and
Charla Hughes had 16 assists.
Chowan improves to 6-4 overall and 6-0 in the CIAA after today. Tomorrow's match against WSSU will be played at Capel Arena on the campus of Fayetteville State University at 2:00pm.
