Box Score 3 WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Chowan University's volleyball team picked up three key victories in the first of two CIAA Round Up Weekends this past weekend hosted by Winston-Salem State University. The Hawks picked up straight sets victories over cross-divisional rivals, Johnson C. Smith University and Shaw University. They played out a five-set match with Fayetteville State University on Sunday and came out on top, 3-2 to remain undefeated in CIAA play this season. The Hawks will play in the second CIAA Round Up weekend this Saturday and Sunday at Fayetteville State University.
Chowan opened Saturday's play with a 3-0 win over Shaw. The Hawks won 25-13, 25-12, and 25-7 with
Karina Monroe getting 10 kills to lead her team.
Callie Armistead had 15 assists in the win.
The Hawks rolled to a 3-0 win over Johnson C. Smith, 25-8, 25-6, and 25-20, to pick up their second win of the day.
Victoria Lewis had a team-high eight kills while Armistead had 11 assists and seven service aces.
Chowan and the Lady Broncos met on Sunday in a rematch of last year's CIAA Championship game. The two teams battled out a five-set match and it was Chowan who came away with the win on Sunday, 25-16, 24-26, 20-25, 25-19, and 15-11.
The Hawks are now 4-0 in CIAA play and 4-4 on the year. They will travel to Fayetteville State this weekend for three matches against Saint Augustine's and Lincoln on Saturday and Winston-Salem State on Sunday. All matches will be played at Felton J. Capel Arena on the campus of Fayetteville State University.
