Chowan Advances to CIAA Championship

Hawks Down Fayetteville State in Straight Sets

CU Hawks will defend their CIAA Championship Title tomorrow
HAMPTON, VA - The Chowan University volleyball team will have a chance to defend their 2009 CIAA Championship title after solidifying a spot in the championship match tomorrow afternoon. The Hawks downed Fayetteville State University in straight sets to advance to the big match tomorrow. Chowan will play the South Division Champs, Saint Augustine's College, who beat Elizabeth City State University 3-1 tonight.

Chowan won with final set scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-15. Victoria Lewis paced all players in the match with 16 kills. Callie Armistead had 26 assists in the win. For FSU, Octavia Wynn tallied 13 kills to lead the Lady Broncos. 

Chowan improves to 21-12 on the year while Fayetteville State ends the season at 16-8. Chowan beat the Lady Broncos a year ago in the CIAA Championship match. The two faced off earlier in the year where the Hawks came away with a five sets win. 

The Championship match will be played tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm in Hampton, Virginia at the Boo Williams SportsPlex. Fans can follow the match live at www.theciaa.com
