(HAMPTON, VA) – Saint Augustine's finished round robin play undefeated and atop Pool B in the CIAA Volleyball Tournament after its 3-1 win over Chowan in a match played this evening at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. Both teams came into the final match of the night undefeated, setting up a thriller between the Southern Division's top seed Lady Falcons and Northern Division's second seed Hawks. But it was the Lady Falcons who would best the Hawks in the match. Both teams move on to the semi-finals on Saturday night.
The Lady Falcons finished the quarterfinals 3-0 after a 25-19, 25-22, 15-25, and 25-19 win over Chowan, who finishes the round robin 2-1. Both teams will advance to Saturday's semi-finals. Saint Augustine's was the top seed in the Southern Division coming into the tournament, while Chowan was the second seed in the North.
Kathryn Tokarski led the Lady Falcons with 15 kills. Roxanne Smith had 32 assists and Keisha Parris had nine digs to lead Saint Augustine's.
Chowan was led by
Karina Monroe with 15 kills and
Victoria Lewis with 14.
Callie Armistead led the Hawks with 36 assists and
Tara Thomalla had 11 digs.
On Saturday, Chowan will take on Fayetteville State – winner of Pool A – in a semi-final match at 5:00 p.m. Saint Augustine's will take on Elizabeth City State at 7:00 p.m. at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. All games are free and open to the public.
