HAMPTON, VA - The CIAA office released today the 2010 Volleyball Championship bracket with Chowan University getting the #2 seed out of the Northern Division. The top eight teams from the league will play in the championship set to start this Friday morning with pool play. The Hawks wrapped up the season at 18-11 overall and 16-2 in the CIAA to finish in second place in the division behind Elizabeth City State University. The tournament starts with pool play on Friday morning that will run through Friday night. Chowan will play three matches on Friday, starting at 9:00am. Semi-final action will start on Saturday night and the tournament concludes on Sunday with the championship match at 1:00pm.
Chowan will open pool play with #3 from the Southern Division, Winston-Salem State University, at 9:00am on Friday. At 1:00pm they will face off against #4 from the Northern Division, Virginia Union University. They will close out pool play on Friday with the Southern Divisions top seed in Saint Augustine's College.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday. Match times for Saturday's semi-final matches will be at 5:00pm and 7:00pm. The winners of the semi-final matches will meet on Sunday in the championship match at 1:00pm. The winner of the championship earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.
