FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The volleyball team suffered their first CIAA loss tonight in a five-set match with CIAA Western Division opponent, Fayetteville State University. The Hawks out hit the Lady Broncos 48 to 41 in the match but gave them seven of their 15 points in the final set off of errors.
Chowan moves to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in the CIAA while FSU improves to 6-7 overall and 7-1 in league play.
After dropping the first two sets of the match 25-18 and 25-19, the Hawks stormed back to take sets three and four with scores of 25-8 and 25-13. Chowan gave the Lady Broncos seven of 15 points in set five however,and fell with a final score of 15-8.
Karina Monroe paced the Hawks with 14 kills while
Victoria Lewis and
Antoinette McCollough added 12 and 10 kills respectively.
Callie Armistead had 32 assists and 14 digs in the match. For FSU, Chekimbrell Jefferson had a team-high 11 kills.
The Hawks will host Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday at 6:00pm in their next outing.
