RALEIGH - The volleyball team battled through a tough match with CIAA Western Division opponent, St. Augustines tonight, and came out on the winning end. Chowan won in five tight games with a final match score of 3-2. Four Hawks tallied double-digit kills in the match, marking their eighth win in a row.
Chowan battled out with game scores of 25-19, 26-28, 25-21, 29-31, and 15-11. Victoria Lewis and Antoinette McCollough had 17 kills in the five-game match while Karina Monroe and Desaray Turner each had 15 and 14 kills respectively. Lewis had 15 digs and five aces to go with her 17 kills. Callie Armistead collected a season-high 46 assists in the win while Monroe had 2.5 blocks.
The Hawks improve to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in league play (2-0 in divisional play). St. Augustines College moves to 6-10 on the season and 6-2 in the league.
Chowan will head down to Fayetteville State University in their next outing on September 22nd for another CIAA match.
