Hawks Go Undefeated at CIAA Round Up

HAMPTON, VA - The volleyball team went a perfect 6-0 at the CIAA Round Up this weekend, moving them to 11-4 overall and 7-0 in league play. The Hawks headed into today's play at 4-0 and beat Bowie State in straight sets and defending CIAA Champs, Elizabeth City State University in four games. 

Chowan matched up against Bowie State University in their first match of the day where they won with game scores of 25-12, 25-7, and 25-16. Chowan out hit the Bulldogs 30 to 13 in the match behind the play of Desaray Turner who had eight kills, 11 digs, and four aces. Freshman Callie Armistead had 23 assists, two aces, and four digs in the straight sets win. 

The Hawks faced off against defending CIAA Champs Elizabeth City State in their final match of the three-day round up. The Hawks won in a toughly fought four games with scores of 22-25, 25-22, 27-25, and 25-21. Four Hawks tallied double digit kills in the match with newcomer Karina Monroe putting 17 of their total 56 kills down. Monroe also had one block in the match. Turner added 14 kills, four aces, and 21 digs in the match while Antoinette McCollough had 13 kills and four aces. Tori Lewis put down 12 kills and also had 12 digs while Armistread set up 45 assists to go with seven digs. 

Chowan lost just one game in the three-day event, that coming at the hands of the Lady Vikings. The Hawks have won seven straight matches, starting with their 3-0 win at Shaw last Wednesday. They will continue league play as they travel to CIAA Western Divison Opponent, St. Augustines College on Tuesday for a 6:00pm match. The Hawks stand at 11-4 overall and 7-0 in league play.
