HAMPTON, VA - The Hawks amassed 52 team kills in a straight sets win over Elizabeth City State University this evening in the second semi-final match of the 2009 CIAA Volleyball Championships. With tonight's win the Hawks advance to the championship match where they will face off against Western Division rival, Fayetteville State University.
Karina Monroe proved tonight why she was named the CIAA Rookie of the Year after pounding out 20 kills.
Victoria Lewis and
Desaray Turner had 12 kills each in the victory.
Chowan won with final set scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 27-25. It was a toughly fought match with the Lady Vikings, whom the Hawks had faced earlier this year and beat at the CIAA Round Up.
Callie Armistead had 38 assists and 12 digs in the win.
Tonight's win marks the 28th win of the season for Chowan. Elizabeth City ends their season at 22-16 overall.
