HAMPTON, VA - Chowan University downed Virginia Union University in straight sets in their first match of the CIAA Volleyball Championships. The Hawks, seeded #1 in the Western Division, faced off against the #4 seeded Panthers from the Eastern Division. Chowan out hit Virginia Union 35 to 14 in the win.

Chowan won with set scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-6. Callie Armistead served the first nine points of the third set, which included five service aces. She ended the match with 27 assists, five aces, and two blocks. Karina Monroe had 12 kills in 16 attempts and six blocks while Desaray Turner had eight kills two aces, and seven digs. 

The Hawks will play #3 Saint Augustine's College in their next pool play match at 3:00pm. They wrap up pool play tonight with the final match at 7:00pm against #2 Virginia State University.
