MURFREESBORO - The volleyball team battled out a straight sets win over Barton College this evening, moving them to 22-8 on the year. The Hawks, who lost to the Bulldogs earlier this season on the road, bounced back with a home victory of their own. They won with final match scores of 25-23, 33-31, and 25-23.
Chowan out hit Barton 40 to 30 in the match and had two players gain double-digit kills on the night.
Karina Monroe had a match-high 14 kills to go with two blocks while
Desaray Turner had 10 kills and six digs.
Callie Armistead, the CIAA's top setter, tallied 38 assists in the match.
Victoria Lewis had seven kills, 12 digs, and two service aces and
Antoinette McCollough added nien kills.
For Barton Melissa Ritter had 13 kills and Macon Harmon had 20 assists. Barton falls to 11-14 on the year.
The Hawks improve to 22-8 on the year and have just two matches remaining on their regular schedule. They will host Fayetteville State University in a CIAA Western Divisional show down on October 29th. The Hawks fell to them earlier this season in Fayetteville and have a chance to a share of the Western Division title if they can pull out a home win. They wrap up regular season play with St. Augustine's College at home on the 31st.
