Box Score Lamont Boone rushed for three touchdowns and Tim Mitchell completed eight of ten passes for 177 yards and one touchdown as Chowan (2-0,2-0) battled back from a 21-7 deficit to defeat Greensboro (0-1, 0-1) in front of 1,800 people at Garrison Stadium.
The Braves got on the board first when Doug Leary found Travis Stanley for a 21-yard touchdown. Greensboro bounced back and took the halftime lead on a pair of rushing touchdowns from Daryl Gholston.
Early in the third quarter, Greensboro added another score when Braves punter Matt Henne mishandled the snap and Greensboro's Octavius Fulton scooped it up and returned it 24 yards to put the Pride on top 21-7.
With time running out in the third quarter, the Braves started to show some life. Boone's one-yard run with 2:56 left in the quarter pulled the Braves to within eight. Chowan's try for a two-point conversion was failed when Mitchell was tackled short of the endzone.
The Braves defense came up big on the next two Pride possessions, forcing them to go three-and-out. Boone's second touchdown run, this one from seven yards out, pulled the Braves to within two. Needing a two-point conversion, Mitchell ran around the end and dove over the pylon and the game was tied.
After the Braves defense held, Mitchell found Jeremy Forbes streaking down the sideline for an 86-yared touchdown as the Braves took the lead, 28-21. On the ensuing kickoff, Ben Lewis' fumble was recovered by Ben Brumbaugh at the Pride 33 yard line. Three plays later, Boone scored his third touchdown, this one from nine yards out.
Chowan improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the ACFC. Greensboro falls to 0-1.
