Hawks Cruise Past Lincoln (PA)

John Hunter collected five hits and seven RBI on Saturday.
LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University baseball team earned two wins on Saturday afternoon in CIAA action after cruising past Lincoln University (PA) 18-4 and 14-3.  The Hawks pounded out 33 hits over the course of the afternoon en-route to the victory. 
 
Josh Catalano and Anthony Waldner scored in the top of the first off a Drew Mason fielder's choice and an RBI single from John Hunter to give the Hawks an early 2-0 lead.  Chowan scored five runs off of five hits in the top of the second to extend their lead to 7-0 after Catalano and Mason's two run doubles, and Hunter's RBI single up the middle. 
 
Anthony Waldnder singles to right field in the top of the third to score Blake Leebrick.  Mason's RBI single to left allowed Catalano to score, and Evan Holton ripped a two-run triple to center field to give Chowan a commanding 11-0 lead.
 
The Hawks used Catalano's sacrifice fly in the fourth, and scored two runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to score 18 runs in the victory.  Lincoln (PA) mustered two runs in the fourth and sixth, but the damage was done. 
 
Holton paced the Hawks with four hits in the victory.  Leebrick and Waldner each collected three hits for Chowan.  Mason and Holton each tallied four RBI in the first contest. 
 
Ryan Moore held the Lions to two hits and two runs over the course of five innings to earn the win for Chowan.  Will Gurganus entered the game in-relief.   Stephen Smith took the loss on the mound for the Lions. 
 
Chowan scored early in the second contest, using Evan Seymour's double to left field to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Hawks' offense exploded in the top of the third to score 11 runs, putting the game out of reach. Hunter started off the rally with a two-run single.  Colby Wiggins laced a three run double to left field, and Seymour hit an RBI single to left to make the score 7-0.  Waldner doubled down the left field line to score Seymour.  Catalano made the score 9-0 after taking advantage of a wild pitch by the Lions.  Moore hit an RBI single to the left side, and Hunter followed up with a two-run homerun to left center to cap-off the 11 run inning. 
 
The Hawks added two runs in the top of the fourth, and held the Lions to three runs over the course of seven innings to capture the 14-3 victory.  Hunter led the way for the Hawks in the nightcap with a 3-4 performance at the plate with five RBI.  Waldner and Seymour each had two hits for Chowan in the victory. 
 
Evan Hart earned the win for the Hawks on the mound, and Carter Siweck came in to relieve Hart in the final two innings of the contest.  Brandon Bolden took the loss for Lincoln (PA) in game two.  The Hawks and Lions will meet up again on Sunday for the final game in the three game series.
