MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Chowan University is pleased to welcome back 2023 graduate Hassan Davis as an assistant men's lacrosse coach. Davis returns to Chowan after previously competing for the Hawks from 2021–2023, where he established himself as one of the program's most accomplished face-off specialists.
During his playing career, Davis appeared in 41 matches, collecting 166 ground balls and recording 377 face-off wins. He currently holds the Chowan program record for most career ground balls and ranks third all-time in face-off percentage at .403. Davis graduated from Chowan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
Following graduation, Davis began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, Dundalk High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as the head varsity lacrosse coach from 2023–2025. In just his first full season competing in Division II Baltimore County play, Dundalk advanced to the regional finals in 2024. The program continued its rapid rise in 2025, capturing its first regional championship since 1995 while setting a school record with 178 goals scored. Under Davis' leadership, the Owls produced 14 all-conference selections and helped place five student-athletes on college rosters.
In addition to his high school coaching duties, Davis also served as an assistant coach with True Lacrosse Baltimore for the 2027 age group during the 2024–2025 seasons. In that role, he developed players' technical skills, lacrosse IQ, and competitive mindset within a high-performance club environment, while emphasizing discipline, accountability, and relentless effort.
Davis further expanded his coaching résumé as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for Dundalk High School's junior varsity football program. He helped guide the team to the first JV county championship in program history, leading a defense that allowed just 8.3 points per game.
Head men's lacrosse coach P.R. Simshauser expressed enthusiasm about Davis' return, saying, "It's exciting to bring one of our own back to the program, and I look forward to him getting the opportunity to work with our guys this spring."
Davis brings a championship mindset, strong communication skills, and a passion for athlete development back to Chowan, where he looks to make an immediate impact on the Hawks' men's lacrosse program.
