MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team pushed Belmont Abbey College to five sets in a tightly contested conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
After the Crusaders claimed the opening set, the Hawks found their rhythm and responded with back-to-back 25-23 wins in sets two and three to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. Belmont Abbey answered in the fourth to force a deciding fifth set, where the two sides battled down to the final points. The Crusaders ultimately edged Chowan 15-13 to take the match, 3-2.
Madison Henderson paced the Chowan attack with a career-high 15 kills while also making her presence felt at the net with eight solo blocks and one block assist. Anna Holcombe led all players defensively with a match-high 31 digs.

Henderson turned in a career-high 15 kills to lead the Hawks offensively while adding eight solo blocks, one block assist and two digs.
Alauna Wilson-Linn continued her strong play with 12 kills and 11 digs for a double-double while adding three service aces and one assist. Alexa Fricker also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs to go along with one service ace and one assist.
Jada Caruthers contributed seven kills, four digs, two blocks and two service aces to the Hawks' effort.
Holcombe led the defensive effort with a match-high 31 digs while adding two assists and one service ace. Andrea Krgovic directed the Chowan offense with 38 assists while also recording seven digs, one service ace and one kill
