MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University softball team split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with King University on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks battled to a 3-2 game one win and dropped the nightcap in a tightly contested 3-2 contest. The Hawks picked up their 14th Conference Carolinas win of the season in the split and their 26th win overall.

Game One
The Hawks' Makenzi Curry picked up her 9th win of the season on the mound after throwing 5.1 innings. Curry struck out two and scattered seven hits before Abby Rutledge came in to help secure the victory with her 7th save of the year. Rutledge tossed the final 1.2 innings for the save. Curry, Kyra Helton, Hydee Kuglar, and Hope Soria each collected a hit in the game. Helton, Ava Mizell, and Calliope James each added RBI's.
Game Two
The Hawks dropped their nightcap game 3-2 after their late comeback attempt was thwarted by the Tornado. Chowan scored two runs late in the game, but fell just short of forcing a tiebreaker. Emily Fowler picked up the loss on the mound. She threw 3.0 innings giving up five hits and two runs. Rutledge through the final 4.0 innings, giving up a run and two hits.
Offensively, the Hawks were held to five hits led by Kugler, Curry, Julianna Kellogg, Bailey Weston, and Kaitlyn Springle who all collected a hit in the game. Kugler and Weston accounted for both runs in the game with RBI hits.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will host Converse College on Sunday, April 12th for Senior Day. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm at Hawks Field. Senior Day will occur just prior to the first game.
