MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University baseball team opened a three-game series against conference opponent Emmanuel University on Friday afternoon at Hawkins Field. KJ Durand Jr. and Payton Clay led the way for the Hawks as both stayed hot at the plate.
Durand recorded four hits in six at-bats while driving in four runs. Clay was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. He finished the afternoon with three RBIs and scored three times.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Chowan produced several multi-run innings, highlighted by a five-run second inning. Payton Clay started the rally with a bases-loaded single to right field that scored Jacob Howard. Landon Carnley, who reached earlier on a single by Ty Boze, also crossed the plate before Derrick Davis and Clay scored on a two-RBI single from KJ Durand Jr. to cap the inning.
The Hawks added three more runs in the sixth inning. Clay launched a home run to right field to start the scoring before Boze came home on a single from Durand. Josh Tripp later scored on a double by Howard down the left-field line.
Chowan plated three additional runs in the ninth inning. Clay singled through the left side to bring home Howard before Tripp singled to left field to score Clay. Durand then delivered another RBI single to right-center to drive in Ellenberg.
Durand finished the game with four hits and four RBIs, while Clay added four hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Derrick Davis recorded three hits and a run, while Howard tallied two runs, a hit, and an RBI. Boze scored twice and added a hit and RBI. Ellenberg recorded a hit and a run, while Carnley also crossed the plate once.

The Hawks continue their three-game series against Emmanuel University on Saturday, March 7. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with game two set to follow at 2:00 PM.
