MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University softball team moved to 18-15 on the year after a doubleheader sweep of Barton College on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks pounded out 16 hits over 14 innings to sweep the Bulldogs in Conference Carolinas play while also evening their league record at 8-8.
Chowan's Ava Mizell collected five hits over two games to lead the Hawks offensively. Chowan ran their home field record to 7-2 after Wednesday's wins.

Game One
Chowan collected 10 hits in a 5-2 game one win led by Ava Mizell and Lenita Bryson who each collected multiple hit games. Mizell went 3-4 with 3 RBI while Bryson went 2-3 in the game. Chowan scored four runs in their last two at-bats to help propel them to the 5-2 victory. Alexis Denham stole two bags, scored two runs and collected a hit in the game. Mackenzi Curry pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits, giving up two runs and striking out two batters.
Game Two
Chowan used a four-run fifth inning to gain a lead that led to the eventual game two, 5-2 win. Abby Rutledge entered the circle in the top of the 5th with the game knotted at 1-1, and picked up the insurance she needed for her 7th win of the season when her team posted four runs in their ensuing at bat. Rutledge pitched out 3 innings, striking out 3 batters and giving up 2 hits. Emily Fowler had another good outing on the mound, starting the game and tossing four innings. She held the Bulldogs to three hits and struck out two through four innings for the no decision. Mizell cleaned up with two hits and two stolen bags while Curry collected a hit and drove in two runs. Hydee Kugler, Hope Soria, and Kaitlyn Springle each drove in a run in the win.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will continue their home stand with back to back league doubleheaders this weekend. Ferrum College comes to town on Friday, March 27th for a 2:00pm and 4:00pm match while Francis Marion will head up on Saturday, March 28th for as 12:00pm and 2:00pm league double dip.
