SANFORD, N.C. – The Chowan University men's golf team teed off the CIAA Southern Division Tournament in strong fashion Monday morning, completing two rounds to open play in a competitive 11-team field. With two teams competing in the tournament, the Hawks turned in a solid start, setting up what is sure to be a competitive third and final round on Tuesday morning at Quail Ridge Country Club.
The Chowan A team shaved 11 strokes off their first round score to surge into 4th place. The Chowan B team got solid play from top to bottom, led by Harry Jones who eagled the par 5 8th hole and collected three birdies in the first round to finish 3 under. Teddy Fee collected six birdies through two rounds while Ruben Gamez Aranda collected seven birdies on the day.

Harry Jones led the way for Chowan with a 69 in the opening round. He recorded a birdie on hole six and an eagle on hole eight, adding two more birdies on the back nine while playing near even golf throughout the remainder of the first round. Jones is currently tied for 10th place on the leadership to lead the pack.
Rueben Gamez Aranda finished tied for 34th after posting a 75 (+3) in the first round, recording two birdies on the front nine and two on the back in the first round. Gabriel Ansley followed with a 76 and a 75 through two rounds to finish the day tied for 12th place on the leadership. Adam Lankford shaved five strokes off his second round score to surge into a tie at 12th place. He carded a 73 in round two to move up the leader board 19 spots.
Chance Lassiter, who also eagled in his first round, moved up 13 spots in round two finish wrap up the first day of play in a tie for 21st place. Mika Buchholtz finished up day one in a tie for 28th place while Bryce Koehler and Justin Peterson are currently tied for 31st place. Teddy Fee is tied for 46th after recording six birdies on the day while Bjoern Holt sits in 50th place.
